As you can see, there are three primary nodes beneath the database listing: Connections, Tables, and Roles.įigure 1: Viewing a tabular database in Object Explorer Figure 1 shows Object Explorer with all nodes of the AdventureWorks Tabular Model SQL 2012 database expanded. So now that you’ve been forewarned, let’s take a closer look at our database in Object Explorer. That said, for many of the basic administrative operations, SSMS is more than adequate, and it provides an easy way to view the data, which is just as important, if not more. When it comes to the tabular model, Microsoft sees SSDT as the primary tool for most data-definition type operations, the idea being that you redeploy, rather than making changes on the fly. However, as you’ll quickly discover, the options you have in SSMS for managing a database are quite limited compared to what’s available for relational databases-or even SSAS multidimensional databases. In SSMS, you can manage your tabular databases as well as query the data in them. If you find it listed there, you’re good to go. Then, in Object Explorer, expand the Databases node to display the database. Once you get all the pieces in place and the AdventureWorks Tabular Model SQL 2012 database deployed to the SSAS instance, open SSMS and connect to that instance. For details about how to set up the project in SSDT, configure the necessary settings, and deploy the database, see the TechNet article “ SQL Server Samples Readme.” You download the project from the same AdventureWorks CodePlex site where you download the data warehouse. However, before we start looking at SSMS, we need to provide a bit of setup information. ![]() Working with a Tabular DatabaseĪfter a tabular database has been deployed to an SSAS tabular instance, you can use SSMS to connect to that instance and its databases. Our plan is for this to be the first of a series of articles about accessing a tabular database deployed to an SSAS instance. You’ll learn about the components that make up a tabular database and the methods available to connect to the database to retrieve its data. We’ll introduce you to the tabular model through the eyes of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). What has not garnered nearly as much attention is what to do with a tabular database once it’s been deployed. Since the release of SQL Server 2012, much has been written about how to use SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) to create a tabular model and deploy it to an instance of SSAS in tabular mode. Together these elements create a database that is fast and efficient and can deliver self-service business intelligence (BI) to a variety of applications, including Excel, PowerPivot, Power View and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Like a cube, the model also supports measures and key performance indicators (KPIs). Like a database, the tabular model supports tables and their relationships. You can think of the tabular model as a cross between a SQL Server relational database and an SSAS multidimensional cube. When Microsoft released SQL Server 2012, they introduced the SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) tabular model, an in-memory database that uses the xVelocity analytics engine and state-of-the-art compression algorithms. ![]() ![]() ![]() By default, there are Collections to show networks based upon their supported 802.11 standard, security status, and one to show ad-hoc networks. The only one we’d caution against is KisMAC2 because it lacks some basic functionality and documentation. ![]() Each product in this review has pros and cons, depending on your particular needs. There’s no big winner or loser in this review, but we did like WiFi Explorer as a basic stumbler. Though we reviewed KisMAC2, we were only able to utilize the internal AirPort card of the MacBook, thus unable to test out the hidden SSID capability. This is why I’d caution against solely using a Mac-based stumbler when surveying, troubleshooting, and auditing Wi-Fi networks.įrom what we could gather, it appears some Wi-Fi tools that support non-AirPort drivers will recognize and even reveal hidden SSIDs, such as KisMAC2 and Kismet. However, this doesn’t help when you don’t know if they exist. By contrast, most Windows-based stumblers would typically list it with a blank/unknown SSID.īut there’s an exception some Mac-based stumblers will show the hidden SSID and its details after you connect to the SSID. This means a hidden SSID usually won’t appear on the network list at all. The Mac Edition of inSSIDer Office was still in beta, but it looks nearly identical to the Windows Edition, which we recently reviewed.ĭue to the current limitations of Apple’s CoreWLAN API, most Wi-Fi stumblers for Mac OS X don’t fully support hidden SSIDs. Turns out the EZ36 is one of Subaru's most advanced engines. Subaru Tribeca, a strange looking large SUV that looked like it was made for the American market as it didn't fit the usual mould of what Aus delivered cars are. I had to look up what the engine was from. "Build a 2.5l!" "Build a high revving 2L" "Throw a stock block in and boost it till it blows". We threw around the usual ideas that people who are into Subaru's do. Nothing I own stays stock for long, soon after I was talking to Al ( Turbo Yoda) about creating the ultimate Grandpa wagon. It was clean, straight and perfect for a build. They'd put it together from a collection of spare parts from front cuts after they've come across the shell. I'd picked up the first and original ' Gramps' from the guys at Ichiban. I've owned a few Subaru wagons and know them back to front so it seemed like the logical choice. It's got a flat engine, which in reality does limit achievable power - but it's also got all wheel drive, meaning that whatever power you do make, you can put that power to use. Rally wins proved it was a formidable car with good performance and reliability. Toyotas were mostly front wheel drive and Hondas were. Toyota has wagons, Nissan have wagons although not many locally delivered. Then there's euro wagons, they are more advanced but also expensive for parts in Australia. but the suspension and engine were fairly old tech. A rear wheel drive Falcon Wagon, it's big, parts are cheap and common. Years ago I thought about other cars that might achieve this. For me, a wagon was the best compromise of a car I could live with but also drive. It seems to be a common theme that people, for whatever reason, find a make or model of car that suits what they do and who they are. The Gramps and Supergramps builds have been an epic journey, one that now feels a bit more finished as the car is painted, looks mad, drives well and is an awesome all rounder daily.įor me this has definitely been a car that's used the best of what i've learned over the years about Subaru's. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Past, Present, And Future Of CircuitPython 35 Comments Posted in classic hacks, Parts Tagged guitar amp, headphone amp, tube, tube audio Post navigation These circuits can be so cheap to get started with that we’d suggest anyone give them a try. We’ve also seen a similar amp that uses an op-amp as an impedance converter, as well as a novel take on the idea whose unusual biasing allows it to run from only 3.3 volts. Last year we took a very in-depth look at the commonly-available Chinese kit pre-amps that use a similar anode-follower circuit but without the transformer. It would be interesting to subject it as a headphone amplifier to a series of audio tests to evaluate the effect of a mains transformer over a dedicated audio one. This isn’t such a problem in a guitar application as here, but hi-fi enthusiasts may find it to be too much. The more it operates towards the edge of its performance envelope the more distortion it will generate and the worse a sound it will produce. Speaker levels require a pre-amp, but even then it’s likely that this circuit is pushing the tube beyond what it’s capable of with a speaker. The HT voltage is a relatively low 24 V, but it still manages to drive headphones acceptably. It serves not only for isolation, but also to transform the high impedance output from the tube into a low impedance suitable for driving a headphone or speaker. The transformer itself isn’t an audio part, but a small mains transformer taken from a scrap wall wart. The tube works in Class A, which means that it’s in its least efficient mode but the one with the least distortion. Most tube enthusiasts will instantly recognize the anode follower circuit with a transformer in the anode feed through which the output is taken. The fairly conventional circuit of the tube amplifier. It’s a classic circuit with a transformer output, and it provides enough amplification to drive a pair of headphones or even a speaker at low levels. ![]() They’ve appeared here before in various guises, and a fitting addition to those previous projects comes from.
